From its dilapidated state, a 2-year renovation of this barn on a family farm in Crescent, Iowa involved creating open flexible space on the upper level and educational space on the first level. Bathrooms and a kitchen were installed so that the family can host educational programing for children. The new space will act as a backdrop to the program’s focus on connecting children with sustainable farming and nutrition. The renovation involved restructuring portions of the barn, adding an interior stair, new doors and windows, and re-cladding it with the old siding patched in with new siding.
